The Contender by Robert Lipsyte *Revised*

The Contender by Robert Lipsyte

Alfred's archetypes:

Warrior-because in the book Alfred is an amateur boxer. And he has to face boxers that are stronger than him.

Mentor-because he tries to persuade James to not smuggle in drugs. He tries to tell him but James doesn't want to listen and  claims that Alfred wouldn't understand.

Shapeshifter-because at first Alfred was reluctant of being a pro boxer. But then he enjoys practicing, and eventually tries to become one.

Herald-because Alfred determines that he has to be a boxer in order to be something "big". He then starts to practice and face many difficult challenges along with it.

Claim: In my opinion, Alfred just wants to be known as a 'big' person. He wants people to know him as a professional boxer, not the kid that dropped out of highschool and now works as a grocery boy.

  1. You should add more examples for your archetypes to make the reader understand the situation.
